Carol Jean Hampson

Carol Jean (Niver) Hampson, 83, of Zanesville, died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at Brookdale Senior Living following a lengthy illness. She was born January 24, 1932, in Warren, Pa., the youngest of Samuel J. and Margaret E. (Morlock) Niver’s four children. She was educated in Warren schools and graduated from Warren Area High School in 1948 at the age of 16. Mrs. Hampson was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Warren where she was a member of the choir and was a soprano soloist. Her favorite solo was “Ave Maria,” which she sang beautifully. Mrs. Hampson worked for more than 30 years for the Warren County Health Center, retiring in 1987. She was a single mother for several years while working and raising her three sons. Mrs. Hampson was an avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles. In her early years, she enjoyed camping, cooking outdoors and swimming with her children at Chapman Dam State Park. She was an excellent cook and always enjoyed preparing meals for her family. Mrs. Hampson married Jack S. Hampson in 1996 and resided in Pleasant Township, PA prior to moving to the Zanesville Area in 2012 to be closer to family in Ohio. While in Zanesville they resided at Primrose Retirement Community and Brookdale Senior Living. She is survived by her husband: Jack Hampson of Zanesville; sons: Michael & Cindy of Cary, N.C., John and Terrie of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Daniel of Akron, Ind.; stepdaughter: Beverly (Lou) LeMaster of Zanesville; stepson David (Kathy) Hampson of Fort Worth, Texas, and stepdaughter Valerie (Keith) White of Drums, Pa.; nine grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her 1st husband: John G. Tucker; her 2nd husband: Victor Stading and three siblings. A Celebration of Life Service will be held to honor Carol’s life, Saturday, October 31, 2015 with a reception serving some of Carol’s favorite snacks at 10:30 AM and a Memorial Service to Celebrate Carol’s Life will follow at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 830 Military Road, Zanesville.
