Ed R. Williams

Ed R. Williams, 70 of Zanesville, died at 7:46 AM Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at his home. He was born Sunday, July 2, 1944 in Morgan County, the son of Rollie Williams and Edith (Taylor) Border. He married his wife of 47 years, the former Linda Lewis, on August 5, 1967. Ed was a graduate of Malta-McConnelsville High School, Eastern Kentucky University, and Central State University. He taught school, coached, or served as a school administrator in the Dayton City Schools, Zanesville City Schools, Crooksville Exempted Village Schools, and Maysville Local Schools. He was a stand-out all around high school athlete, and was named to the Morgan High School Athletic Hall of Fame on January 17, 2014. Ed was a long time basketball, football, softball and baseball official and was a member of the Muskingum Valley Officials Association. Surviving in addition to his wife, Linda, are two sons, Ted (Shandy) Williams of Pickerington, Ohio and Rich Williams (Kenny Schaeffer) of Hilliard, Ohio and four grandchildren, A.J. Williams of Hilliard, Grant Williams, Lauren Williams and Mia Williams of Pickerington. In addition he is survived by two brothers, Tim (Kim) Williams of Crooksville and Matt (Jo) Williams of Powell and three sisters, Dixie (Tony) Janes of Duncan Falls, Kay (Jim) Knouff of Cambridge, and Debbie (Steve) Willison of Groveport. Also surviving are his aunt, Dorothy Williams of Grove City, his aunt, Merrell Taylor, of McConnelsville, his brother-in-law, John (Jennifer) Lewis of New Lexington, his brother-in-law, Judge Linton (Anne) Lewis and his sister-in-law, Margie (Joe) Davis both of Zanesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Jack Border, his step-mother, Irene Williams, and his in-laws, Margaret and Linton D. Lewis, Sr. Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville where Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday with Pastor Galen Finley officiating. Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery.
