Janet E. Schaumleffel

Janet E. Schaumleffel, 69 of Zanesville, died 3:20 PM Friday, August 9, 2013 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice following a very brief illness. She was born Sunday, October 10, 1943 in Zanesville. She was the daughter of John “Jake” Durant and Virginia M. (Addis) Durant. She married James A. Schaumleffel on Thursday, January 25, 1962 and together they raised their family on Valley View Road in Zanesville. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and was a graduate of Rosecrans High School. Janet was employed by The Kroger Company, retiring following many years of dedicated service. Following her retirement from Krogers, Janet served in various secretarial positions. She was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 505 Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Sigma Delta Pi Sorority who sponsored the Annual Rose Ball. Janet was a volunteer with Genesis Good Samaritan Gift Shop. She was an avid reader and gardener. She greatly enjoyed ceramics and the time she spent with the West Main Senior Center Ceramics Class. She always looked forward to the monthly ladies luncheon with her Rosecrans Classmates. Janet was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who cherished the time she spent with them. Janet’s grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to her. Janet is survived by one daughter: Chris (Jeff) Dodson of Zanesville; one son: Jim (Lynda Gibson) Schaumleffel of Nashport; one grandson: Ryan (Lanae) Dodson; one great grandson: Cale Dodson; two brothers: Charles (Sally) Durant and Tom (Jane) Durant both of Zanesville; one sister: Karen (David) Fleming of Westerville and many nieces, nephews and extended family including: Jason (Ashley) Keck, Ross (Heather) Barr, Carsen and Laynie Keck. In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband: Jim Schaumleffel who died, November 10, 1978 and one very special grandson: Kyle Dodson, who died December 30, 2000. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church, 935 Main Street with Fr. Martin J. Ralko as celebrant.
