Jason N. Darby

Jason N. Darby, 44 of Otto, Wyoming, formerly of Zanesville, Ohio died Saturday, October 11, 2014 from injuries sustained following an automobile accident. He was born Tuesday, February 24, 1970 in Zanesville, the son of Richard N. “Dick” Darby and Sondra “Sonie” (Baker) Darby. Jason was a loving and adoring son, brother, uncle and friend. Jason was a 1988 graduate of West Muskingum High School and received his Degree in Culinary Arts from Columbus State Community College. Jason worked as a chef for many prestigious Columbus, Ohio Restaurants including the Columbus County Club, Hyde Park Grill and Worthington Inn and the Kenwood Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jason was a lover of nature. On a trip out west he developed his passion and love for the beautiful western countryside. He moved to New Mexico as a hunting and travel guide and later to Wyoming. He was Ranch Manager for The Lazy B Bar Cattle Ranch which allowed him to commune with the nature he loved, manage his heard of cattle and spend time on the range. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an animal lover especially his horses and dogs. Ranching was not his career but the fulfillment of a life’s dream. He still maintained his excitement and enthusiasm for food from his culinary roots. Jason never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew him. Jason is survived by his parents; former wife Chanda of Otto Wyoming; one sister: Julie & Dick Martin of Pickerington; two brothers: Darren Darby of Worthington and Kurt (Paula Day) Darby of Zanesville; nine nieces and nephews: Nathan & Anna Martin, Nick, Danny, Ellie & Scooter Darby and Gaige, Brehana and Anya Gassaway; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; longtime friend and fellow chef: Jay Snider of Northern Kentucky; and mentor, friend and advisor: Gene Borre of Otto, Wyoming. Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, October 16, 2014 at The Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday. Jason will be laid to rest in the Darby family plot in Zanesville Memorial Park.
