Jeffrey "Jeff" McFarland

Jeffrey “Jeff” McFarland, known to many as “Pap,” passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born on Christmas Day in 1944, Jeff was a gift to all who knew him. Though he experienced loss early in life, he was lovingly raised by his uncle and aunt, Frank and Rita Carpenter, who shaped the kind, fun-loving man he became. In 1968, a winsome spirit with a shit-eating grin met the bold and spunky Sandra “Sandy” (Buck) McFarland and after just six months of courtship, they married. Together, Jeff and Sandy raised five children Matt (Dolores) McFarland, Mike (Jocelyn) McFarland, Mitch (Tammy) McFarland, Jana (Bill) Adams, and Jason (Tonya) McFarland. Jeff had a deep love for music, especially the sounds of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and Roy Orbison. Whether sipping whiskey, singing karaoke, or watching golf and westerns in their dream home on Melody Lake, he embraced life with a laid-back charm and an undeniable sense of humor. Jeff proudly served his country in the Army Reserves for two years before building a career at First National Bank. Bravely shifting gears, he later became a business owner, running JJ’s Drive-Thru on Linden Avenue alongside his trusted partner and friend, Joe Garner. His work ethic was unmatched, but he always made time for the things that mattered most—family, friends, and a good time. Jeff is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandy; his parents, James “Jim” and Margarette (Carpenter) McFarland; and his sister, Judith (McFarland) Quinlan. Jeff is survived by his five children, fifteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two sisters, Jean (McFarland) Roessler and Jill (McFarland) Grandstaff, a brother, Jack McFarland, a Brother-in-law Fred (Allison) Buck, a Sister-in-law Betsie Buck, and many special nieces and nephews all with whom he shared countless unforgettable moments. While he may no longer be with us, his spirit will live on in the stories, songs, and smiles of those who were lucky enough to know him. His parting words to those he loved were simple and true: “Be good. Do good. But have fun.” Services honoring Jeff will be held 2-4pm on Monday, February 3 2025 at the Hillis, Combs, & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, OH.
