Laura Jean Hemmer

Laura Jean Hemmer, 90 of Zanesville, died 4:55 PM, Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Adams Lane Care Center following a lengthy illness. She was born Thursday, July 16, 1925 in Zanesville, the daughter of Bernard Drumm and Bernadette (Jacobs) Drumm. She married Theodore J. “Teddy” Hemmer on Saturday, March 4, 1944 and was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Laura Jean was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Laura Jean was often called “Gammy” by those who knew and loved her. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid Teddy Bear Collector. Her passion for collecting Teddy Bears was inspired by her husband "Teddy". She enjoyed making baby blankets and presenting them to all her family and friends. Laura Jean is survived by two daughters: Penny Ryan and Sandy (Jim) McGee both of Zanesville; two sons: Terry Hemmer of Blacklick and Larry Hemmer of Zanesville; twelve grandchildren: Tim (Wendy) Ryan of Columbus, Ted (Trisha) Ryan of Zanesville, Tammy Ryan of Columbus, Amy (Cliff) Farley, Tom Ryan, Kathy Miracle, Joey (Rhonda Watts) Ryan, Mindy (Jerry Lundell) Ryan, Melissa (Russ) Denny and Christine (Chad) Hatfield all of Zanesville, Tim (Stephanie) Hemmer of Pataskala and Michelle (Brian) Woznicki of Cincinnati; 28 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren with one on the way; three great, great, great grandchildren and one on the way and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents, Laura Jean was preceded in death by her husband: Teddy Hemmer; one son-in-law Joe Ryan and two brothers: Virgil & Vernon Drumm. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 19, 2016 at The Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where a Christian Vigil will be held at 7:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM Saturday, February 20, 2016 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 925 Main Street, Zanesville, with Fr. Martin Ralko as celebrant. Laura Jean will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband: Teddy, in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
