Carol A. Smith

Carol Anna Smith, age 81, died Wednesday March 16, 2016 at her home with her loved ones by her side. She was born October 24, 1934 in Zanesville, Oh, the second of seven children of Herbert and Rose (Mattey) Cooper. She married Billy M. Smith on January 11, 1982 and he preceded her in death, December 12, 2010. Together, Carol and ‘Smitty’ enjoyed many good times together on the motorcycle, in their motor home and at the winter home in Florida. Carol spent her entire life in Zanesville. She graduated from Bishop Rosecrans High School, worked at WHIZ radio and retired from Six County Mental Health Center. She was a member of Saint Nicholas Catholic Church. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Oscar and Linnie (Zollars) Cooper and maternal grandparents, John and Anna (Lesko) Mattey. She is survived by her five children, Stephen (Kay) Wartenbe of Zanesville, Christina (David) Rittenhouse of Marysville, Robert Wartenbe of Lima, Kelly Wagner of Zanesville, Karen (Rob) Hail of Westerville and stepsons, Mike (Melanie) Smith of Zanesville and Mark (Vicky) Smith of Florida. She leaves behind twelve grandchildren, Chase (Kristy) Wartenbe, Jodi Wisecarver, Joseph Wartenbe, Natalie (Billy) Ludwig, Kacy Richmond, Cara Nelson, Zachary (Alyson) Hall, Mick Wagner, Haley Hessler, Holden Hessler, Jennifer Smith and Heather Smith. Also ten great-grandchildren, Sam, Alex, and Max Wisecarver, Tyler Nelson, Adalyn Hall, Tracer and Taylor Richmond, Carleigh and Jarrett Ludwig and Emma Wagner. She is survived by her six siblings and their families; Patricia Barnes of Zanesville, Jerry Cooper of Brockway, PA, Rosemary Minear of Red Bank, NJ, Thomas (Sue) Cooper of Indian Land, SC, Sarah Ebersbach of Zanesville and Michael (Kathy) Cooper of Clemmons, NC. The family would like to sincerely thank the Genesis Hospice personnel who so faithfully helped care for their mother. Funeral Services to Celebrate Carol’s Life will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the funeral home with Fr. Martin Ralko officiating.
