Jack Hannon

Jack Junior Hannon, 83 of Zanesville, formerly of Pleasant City died 5:45 AM Friday, December 31, 2010 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice following a lengthy illness. He was born Saturday, August 6, 1927 in Pleasant City, the son of John J. Hannon and Hannah (Hancock) Hannon. He married Joy (Imes) Hannon on Saturday, December 08, 1979 and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Jack served his country during World War II in The United States Navy. He retired in 1987 from Foote Mineral Company following 30 years of service. Jack served as mayor of Pleasant City for over 30 years and at the beginning of his term was the youngest mayor in the state. During his tenure as mayor, Jack founded the Pleasant City Fire Department. He also served on the Board of Education for Rolling Hills School District, was a past president of Mended Hearts Zanesville Chapter 51, member of Pleasant City Masonic Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, Cambridge Elks Lodge, Valley of Cambridge Scottish Rite and The American Legion Post 29. In 2005 Jack received the Veteran of The Year Award presented by The Muskingum County Veterans Council. Jack is survived by his wife of the home; four sons: Leslie R. (Jane) Hannon of Pleasant City; Frederick J (Martha) Hannon of Byesville; Kevin J. Hannon of Coshocton and Thomas J (Angela) Hannon of Lore City; one stepson: Mark A. (Rosanna) Cale and one step daughter: Melissa (Robert) Paap both of Zanesville; numerous grandchildren and one sister-in-law: Madelyn Hannon of Buffalo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife: Evelyn (Workman) Hannon who died in June of 1976; three brothers: Thomas, James and Frederick Hannon and one sister: Ellen Hannon. Friends may call from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 4, 2010 at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue where funeral services will be begin at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jim Sands officiating. Layette Lodge will conduct Masonic Funeral Rites prior to funeral services. Burial will follow in Pleasant City Cemetery with the Guernsey County Veterans Council conducting Full Military Honors.
