Jane Hemmer Hodges

Jane Hemmer Hodges, age 67 of Nashport, passed away peacefully at 4:13 AM, Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice. She was born Thursday, September 25, 1947 in Zanesville, the daughter of Karl J. Hemmer and Leah J. (Krumlauf) Hemmer. She married Jim Hodges on Saturday, April 18, 1970 and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology. Jane was a career educator with Zanesville City Schools retiring following 28 years of service as a Certified Speech Pathologist. She had a special passion for working with special needs and hearing impaired students. Jane loved working with her students, who were the driving force for her desire for education. She loved to continue her education and always strived to learn and educate herself on new and improved ways of education. Jane was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who greatly enjoyed spending time with her family especially her children and grandchildren; she also enjoyed knitting. Jane is survived by her husband: Jim of the home; one daughter: Nancy & Dan Barlow of Ridgefield, CT; two sons: Rob & Kristen Hodges of Lebanon & John & Melissa Hodges of Zanesville; five grandchildren: Maxfield Barlow, Lillian Barlow, Brock Hodges, Mitchell Hodges and Cali Jane Hodges: two sisters: Margaret & Mark Paisley of Columbus & Joanne & David Sapadin of Naperville, IL; two brothers: David & Peggy Hemmer of Little Elm, TX & Thomas Hemmer of Costa Rica and many friends, students and special angels including Cindy Cameron, Cinda Cooper & Dottie Durant. Jane was preceded in death by her parents. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday January 2, 2015 at The Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville and one hour prior to funeral services from 10:00 AM till time of service at the church. Funeral Services to celebrate Jane’s life will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Grace United Methodist Church, 516 Shinnick Street, Zanesville with Dr. Mark Ballmer officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Nick A. & Nancy R.
