Jeanette A. "Jane" Durant, age 87 of Zanesville, died 11:52 AM, Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, OH. She was born Saturday, December 22, 1928 in Zanesville the daughter of George Norman Baker and Agnes A. (Burkhard) Baker. She was married on Saturday, May 13, 1950 to Charles E. "Chuck" Durant. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Jane enjoyed reading, sewing, singing in the choir and traveling with her husband Chuck. Jane worked for the telephone company in her early years. Later, she assisted him in the family business, Durant Plumbing, as bookkeeper and financial secretary. Jane also volunteered at the St. Nicholas Grade School library, the St. Nicholas Festival and as a poll worker for many years. She could really stretch the budget, and all of her children had the opportunity for higher education. They remember her as a great cook who could make a wonderful meal out of next to nothing; her potato salad and pies were the hit of Baker Family reunions and the envy of many! When visiting Mimi, her grandchildren knew they could always raid the freezer for that lost canister of Christmas cookies any month of the year! Jane is survived by her husband of 65 years: Chuck Durant, Sr. and six children: Chuck (Jane) Durant, Jr. of Austin, TX, Stephen M. (Patricia) Durant of Carmichael, CA., Diane (Tom) Rotunda of Copley, OH, Carol L. (Bob) Holtzclaw of Hartford, CT, Mary Joan (Jeff) Lewis of Granville, OH and Pat (Renee) Durant of Zanesville; nine grandchildren: Jennah M. Durant (Gary) Maxwell, Ryan J. (Amber) Durant, Kyle Durant, Erik Durant, Maddi Rotunda, Jared Lewis, Alexandra Lewis, Olivia Durant and Ian Durant; one step-grandson: Rich Holtzclaw; two great granddaughters: Danielle and Emery Durant; one sister: Mary Margaret Kempf of Florida and five sisters-in-law: Ann Baker, Mary Ann Baker, Barbara Baker of Zanesville, Patricia Baldwin of Kettering, OH and Delores Bender of Zanesville In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by an infant son: Mark Frederik Durant; two sisters: Beatrice Baker and Bernice Bee; five brothers: Bernard Baker, George Joseph Baker, Herbert W. Baker, James David Baker, Jerome Frederick “Fred” Baker and John Francis “Bunk” Baker and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, OH where a Christian Vigil Service will take place at 7:45 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church 925 East Main Street Zanesville OH with Fr. Martin Ralko as celebrant.
