Judith 'Judy' Gaumer

Judith Ann 'Judy' Gaumer, 71 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at 2:37 PM Friday, December 24, 2010 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice following a courageous nine year battle with cancer. She was born Tuesday, March 14, 1939 in Zanesville, the daughter of the late Charles Schaumleffel and Leota (O'Brien) Schaumleffel. She married Ronald Gaumer on Saturday, July 29, 1961 and was a devoted member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Judy was a graduate of Rosecrans High School and the Good Samaritan School of Nursing. She served as a Registered Nurse for 38 years, 33 years for Dr. Dominic Brune, and the last 5 years for Doctors Stephen Ulrich, Anthony Reichley, and Shelly Dunmyer, before retiring in 2002 due to her illness. She loved gardening and was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and aunt who treasured the time she spent with her nieces and grandson.. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Ronald Gaumer, a son Eric (Kammy) Gaumer, and her only grandchild, Steele O'Brien Gaumer “the love of her life”. She is survived by her living siblings, Jerry Schaumleffel; Jay (Claire) Schaumleffel; Jean Ellen Smith; John (Brenda) Schaumleffel; Joe (Connie) Schaumleffel, and Janet (Mike) Watton. Nieces and nephews include J.J. Schaumleffel; Jeff Schaumleffel; J.C. (Carol) Schaumleffel; D.J. (Jennifer) Helriggle; Lisa Barton; Cathy Hernon; Todd Whipple; Chad (Stacy) Helriggle; Charles Schaumleffel; Joe (Jennifer) Schaumleffel; Jamie (Kevin) Ritchey; Jason Schaumleffel; Joe (Tracy) Schaumleffel; Ashley (Kevin) Knowlton; Alyson (Thomas III) Pippett; and Ryan French. Great nieces and nephews include Kayla and Kara Barton; Emma Nelson; Brendon, Dillon, Braylen, and Kylie Schaumleffel; Cassie and Riley Helriggle; Ella and Gray Knowlton; Kaid Ritchey; Thomas Pippett IV, and Isabelle French. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by an infant brother, Charles Schaumleffel, and a sister, Jane Whipple. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue where a Christian Vigil Service will be held at 6:45 PM. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to mass from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM with Fr. Pius Pietrzyk, O.P. as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
