Wanda Bailey

Wanda Clarina Bailey, 83 of Zanesville, died peacefully and quietly with family at her bedside at the Cedar Hill nursing home September 4, 2012 at 5:08pm. She had been in a long-term battle with the affliction of Alzheimer’s and was admitted to the Alzheimer’s unit at the Heath Nursing Care Center on July 4, 2012. She remained there until an admission to Licking Memorial Hospital on August 14th, finally on August 28th she came to the care of Genesis Hospice at Cedar Hill Care Center. She was born Thursday, August 22, 1929 in Amesville, Athens County to the union of Budwell J. Churchill and Della F. Churchill. She was a lifelong member of the Wings of Hope Tabernacle, baptized in 1994 and remained a faithful member. Wanda retired from Lucent Technology in 1987 and resumed her interests in the arts. She was one of the first members of the Z.A.A.P. (Zanesville Appalachian Arts Project); during the 1950’s and 60’s was a member of the Wanda Morgan Club for women; Pioneers of America; P.U.R.E. (Putnam Underground Railroad Education) Center; Nelson T. Gant Foundation, and a grant writer for the revitalization of the 8th ward. Her greatest enjoyment in life was her family, which she adorned with her never-ending/changing love. Her interests also included traveling, word puzzles, reading, sewing, decorating, gardening and oil painting. Wanda leaves to lovingly cherish her memory, three daughters, Mrs. Alan (Linda) Mayle, Mrs. Thomas (Jocelyn “Joy”) Crumpler, of Columbus, Ms. Janet Bailey, Florida; two sons, Col. Jonathon D. (Carla) Bailey of Columbus and Howard A. “Biff” Bailey, seventeen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, three brothers, Ronald “Ronnie” (Gloria) Brown, Budwell W. Churchill and Herbert A. (Darla) Churchill and two special cousins, Elizabeth “Libby” Curtis and Ester Green. She was preceded in death by her parents, Della and Budwell J. (Bud) Churchill, and son-in-law Thomas Crumpler. Friends may call from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Sunday, September 9th with funeral services to be held 11:00am Monday, September 10th at Wings of Hope Tabernacle, 709 Lee Street with Terry F. Newman co -officiating with Elder Terrence E. Brown of Greater Apostolic Church of Christ. Arrangements are being handled by the Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville.
